Hiring a Coach: How You Know the Time Is Right
– Guidance along a highly diverse road of wellness philosophies and trends that are hard to ignore
There’s something powerful about being part of a room full of people who’ve walked along the same path you’re on—who’ve weathered similar storms of varying intensities, grown through remarkably similar challenges, and yet still show up with purpose. For the past decade, likely more, I’ve sat in rooms with other gym owners who, like me, have dedicated their lives to coaching and building communities. Building sustainability for their clients and their families.
One thing that’s always struck me in those rooms? We rarely talk about training style. Not because it’s not important—but because everyone has their own philosophy, built over years of experience. And if you want to start a never-ending debate, ask 10 gym owners how they program burpees!
That’s the thing about coaching: it’s personal. It’s layered. And it evolves.
Urban Athlete has been rooted in the Mt. Airy community since January 2005. We’ve grown alongside our clients. We’ve changed, we’ve adapted, and we continue to prioritize learning—always keeping one thing constant: a commitment to making health and strength accessible, sustainable, and real.
We’re not interested in gimmicks. And we’re not here to push workouts that only look good on social media. Our coaching approach is grounded in what works—training that’s consistent, welcoming, and built to last.
Hiring a coach isn’t about not knowing what to do. It’s about deciding that this part of your life matters enough to not do it alone.
You don’t need to be “more ready.”
You don’t need to “get in shape first.”
If you’ve been thinking about it, that’s your sign. When the gym starts to feel like a place you could belong, that’s enough.
When you’re ready, we’ll meet you there—with the experience of nearly 20 years inside our four walls, nearly triple that when you stack all of the coaches together, plus the backing of a strong, connected community, and the guidance to help you move forward with confidence.
We’re opening up more personal training hours in late August—both traditional personal training and IsoPhit sessions. If the timing feels right for you, just know: we’re ready when you are.
