Here we are.
Standing in the middle of the floor.
Same as we’ve been since 2006.
Coaching every warm-up.
Every setup.
Every movement on the screen.
Every rep throughout the workout.
More than 7,000 days later, we’re still doing it.
Not because people don’t learn.
Not because our members aren’t capable.
And certainly not because we like hearing ourselves talk.
We coach every rep because that’s the job.
One of the biggest reasons Urban Athlete clients show up is simple:
They don’t want to think about what to do.
Your day already requires enough decision-making. Work. Family. Schedules. Deadlines. Logistics. The last thing you need is to stand in a gym wondering:
Was this a double racked squat or a goblet squat?
Is this a band pull-down or a band push-down?
What weight did I use last time?
What comes next?
We don’t expect you to remember the difference between every variation.
We don’t expect you to mentally catalog movements.
We don’t expect you to “figure it out.”
That’s our role, one of the purposes we serve.
We have clients who’ve been with us since 2006.
We also have clients who started last week.
And here’s the truth: both deserve coaching.
Some long-time members know the movements well. Others prefer not to store that information, because they don’t need to. They trust us to guide it.
It’s not about whether the “room” knows.
It’s about whether you feel clear.
Clear on what you’re doing.
Clear on how to set up.
Clear on whether to go heavier or scale back.
Clear on what to focus on in that moment.
No guessing. No uncertainty. No wandering between exercises hoping you’re doing it right.
When we coach every rep, it’s not necessarily because something is wrong.
It’s because something can always be refined.
Maybe today you’re low energy and need a variation that feels more appropriate.
Maybe you’re ready to load more weight and challenge yourself further.
Maybe your shoulder feels different than last week.
Maybe you’re stronger than you realize.
Coaching allows us to respond in real time.
To adjust.
To encourage.
To simplify.
To push.
That’s not something you get from a screen alone.
That’s not something you get from a generic program.
That’s something you get from a human paying attention.
We’ve coached through early mornings and late evenings.
Through packed classes and quiet ones.
Through life stages, injuries, pregnancies, marathons, surgeries, and comebacks.
And still... every rep gets coached.
Whether it’s needed or not.
Because the moment someone walks into Urban Athlete, they shouldn’t have to wonder what to do next.
That mental space matters.

“Absolutely love this gym. Been a member for over 2 years and go 1–3x/wk. I'm close to 50 and am very active... soccer, tennis, snowboarding, half marathons, etc. UA keeps me strong and mobile which prevents injury, keeps me from getting achey, and improves my performance substantially. It's a wonderful community, you come as you are and are warmly welcomed. Since the workouts are full body, functional movements where you choose your own weights, it allows for a wide range of people to benefit from the same class. Sometimes I just don't want to get out of bed but knowing my classmates and the supportive, knowledgeable trainers will be there motivates me to get in the door, which is more than half the battle.”
That’s why we coach.
Not for perfection.
Not for show.
Not to prove a point.
But so that when you show up, whether it's tired, motivated, unsure, ready, distracted, or dialed in you are supported.
You’ll never have to wonder what to do next.
